Surah Al-Isra — 17:27

Innal mubazzireena kaanoo ikhwaanash shayaateeni wa kaanash shaytaanu li Rabbihee kafooraa

Saçıp savuranlar, şüphesiz şeytanlarla kardeş olmuş olurlar; şeytan ise Rabbine karşı pek nankördür.

The wasteful are brothers of the devils, and the devil is ungrateful to his Lord.

Reflection

Early readings distinguish tabdhir from ordinary excess: Ibn Abbas and others are reported to have glossed it as spending in the wrong place, however small the sum, while israf is overspending in a right one. Placement supports that, since the warning sits between a command to give relatives their due and a caution two verses on against the closed hand. Kinship language then frames waste as company one keeps rather than one bad decision.
