قَالُوٓا۟ أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

The mob answers hospitality with a prior injunction: they had already forbidden Lut from sheltering anyone, so what is happening at his door follows a standing policy rather than a sudden impulse. Al-ʿālamīn in their question is sweeping, the whole world of people, and it shows a town that had made receiving a stranger an offence, and Lut resisting it long enough to have been warned once before.
