رَّبَّنَآ إِنِّىٓ أَسْكَنتُ مِن ذُرِّيَّتِى بِوَادٍ غَيْرِ ذِى زَرْعٍ عِندَ بَيْتِكَ ٱلْمُحَرَّمِ رَبَّنَا لِيُقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ فَٱجْعَلْ أَفْـِٔدَةً مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ تَهْوِىٓ إِلَيْهِمْ وَٱرْزُقْهُم مِّنَ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْكُرُونَ
Rabbanaaa inneee askantu min zurriyyatee biwaadin ghairi zee zar'in 'inda Baitikal Muharrami Rabbanaa liyuqeemus Salaata faj'al af'idatam minan naasi tahweee ilaihim warzuqhum minas samaraati la'allahum yashkuroon
"Rabbimiz! Ben çocuklarımdan kimini, namaz kılabilmeleri için Senin kutsal evinin yanında, ziraata elverişsiz bir vadiye yerleştirdim. Rabbimiz! İnsanların gönüllerini onlara meylettir, şükretmeleri için onları ürünlerle rızıklandır."
Our Lord, I have settled some of my offspring in a barren valley near your sacred House, our Lord, so that they may establish the prayer. So incline the hearts of people toward them, and provide them with fruits, that they may be grateful.
Ibrahim asks for the hearts of some of the people, with a partitive that early commentators dwelt on: had he asked for the people, they said, every nation would have crowded into the valley. Fruit is requested for ground the prayer itself describes as growing nothing, so the request lands on the one thing the place cannot supply. Prayer is named as the reason for settling them there, before any mention of food.
