The Qur'an speaks to the heart as the place where faith either settles or slips away. It describes hearts that soften, hearts that harden, and hearts that finally grow quiet when they remember their Lord. Much of the inner life we struggle to name has already been named here.
These verses gather that language in one place. Read them slowly when your own heart feels heavy, distracted, or far away, and let them remind you that God stays nearer to it than you do.
13:28 — those who believe, and whose hearts find peace in the remembrance of God — truly, in the remembrance of God hearts find peace.
26:89 — only the one who comes to God with a sound heart.
22:46 — Have they not traveled through the land, so that they might have hearts to understand with and ears to hear with? It is not the eyes that go blind, but the hearts within the chest that go blind.
50:37 — In that is surely a reminder for anyone who has a heart, or who listens attentively and is present.
8:24 — You who believe, respond to God and the Messenger when he calls you to what gives you life. And know that God comes between a person and their heart, and that to him you will be gathered.
64:11 — No misfortune strikes except by God's permission. Whoever believes in God, he guides their heart. And God knows all things.
3:159 — It was by a mercy from God that you were gentle with them. Had you been harsh and hard of heart, they would have scattered from around you. So pardon them, ask forgiveness for them, and consult them in the matter. Then, once you have resolved, place your trust in God — indeed, God loves those who place their trust in him.
2:10 — In their hearts is a disease, and God has increased their disease. A painful punishment awaits them for the lies they kept telling.
