There is a particular weight that settles after we do wrong, when the memory replays and the soul wants to hide. The Qur'an speaks directly to that weight. It calls the one who has slipped to turn around, and it promises that the turning will be met.
These verses gather God's repeated invitation to come back. They describe a mercy wide enough for every sin, a door that has not closed, and a Lord who loves those who return to Him. Read them slowly when shame tells you it is too late.
39:53 — Say: my servants who have wronged yourselves through excess, do not despair of God's mercy. God forgives all sins. Indeed, he is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
2:222 — They ask you about menstruation. Say: it is a vulnerable time, so keep apart from women during their menses, and do not approach them until they are cleansed. When they have purified themselves, come to them as God has directed you. God loves those who turn back to him, and he loves those who keep themselves pure.
66:8 — You who believe, turn to God in sincere repentance. It may be that your Lord will wipe away your wrongs and admit you into gardens through which rivers flow, on a day when God will not disgrace the Prophet or those who believed with him. Their light will race before them and on their right, and they will say, 'Our Lord, perfect our light for us and forgive us. Indeed, you have power over all things.'
4:110 — Whoever does evil or wrongs himself, then seeks God's forgiveness, will find God forgiving and merciful.
3:135 — And those who, when they commit an indecency or wrong themselves, remember God and seek forgiveness for their sins — and who forgives sins but God? — and they do not persist in what they did, knowingly.
25:70 — Except those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds — for them God will replace their evil deeds with good ones. God is ever forgiving, ever merciful.
9:104 — Do they not know that it is God who accepts repentance from his servants and receives their offerings, and that God alone is the Ever-Relenting, the Merciful?
11:90 — Seek forgiveness from your Lord, then turn back to him in repentance. Indeed, my Lord is merciful and loving.
