Patience in the Qur'an is not passivity. It is the strength to stay present to something difficult without being destroyed by it. "With hardship comes ease — truly, with hardship comes ease" (94:5–6), said twice, as if to be believed. "God does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear" (2:286).
When anxiety makes the future feel unsurvivable, these verses return attention to the only place anything is ever actually carried: now. "In the remembrance of God hearts find rest" (13:28).
2:153 — You who believe, seek help through patience and prayer. God is with those who are patient.
2:286 — God does not burden any soul beyond its capacity. To its credit is what it has earned, and against it is what it has wrought. Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or fall into error. Our Lord, do not lay upon us a burden like the one you laid upon those before us. Our Lord, do not burden us with what we have no strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us; you are our Protector, so help us against the people who deny.
39:10 — Say: My servants who believe, be mindful of your Lord. For those who do good in this world, there is good, and God's earth is vast. Indeed, those who are patient will be paid their reward without measure.
3:200 — You who believe, be patient, outlast others in patience, stand firm together, and be mindful of God, so that you may flourish.
16:127 — Be patient — and your patience is only through God. Do not grieve over them, and do not be distressed by what they scheme.
13:28 — those who believe, and whose hearts find peace in the remembrance of God — truly, in the remembrance of God hearts find peace.
