Every chapter of the Qur'an but one opens with the same two words: the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Mercy is not a footnote; it is the frame. "Do not despair of God's mercy — He forgives all sins" (39:53). "My mercy encompasses all things" (7:156).
For anyone carrying a wrong they cannot put down, these verses insist the door is not the kind that locks. "Let them pardon and overlook. Would you not love for God to forgive you?" (24:22).
39:53 — Say: my servants who have wronged yourselves through excess, do not despair of God's mercy. God forgives all sins. Indeed, he is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
7:156 — And decree for us what is good in this world and in the hereafter — we have turned to you in repentance.' God said, 'my punishment I bring upon whom I will, but my mercy encompasses all things. I will decree it for those who are mindful, who give the purifying alms, and who believe in our signs —
4:110 — Whoever does evil or wrongs himself, then seeks God's forgiveness, will find God forgiving and merciful.
24:22 — And let not those of you blessed with bounty and abundance swear off giving to their relatives, the needy, and those who emigrated in the path of God. Let them pardon and overlook. Do you not love that God should forgive you? And God is forgiving, merciful.
12:92 — He said, "No blame upon you today. May God forgive you — he is the Most Merciful of the merciful.
2:286 — God does not burden any soul beyond its capacity. To its credit is what it has earned, and against it is what it has wrought. Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or fall into error. Our Lord, do not lay upon us a burden like the one you laid upon those before us. Our Lord, do not burden us with what we have no strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us; you are our Protector, so help us against the people who deny.
