Kindness sounds simple until the day asks for it. A sharp word waits at the tip of the tongue, a grudge settles in, and the soft answer costs more than we expected. The Qur'an keeps returning to this small, daily choice and treats it as worship.
These verses gather what God asks of us toward parents, neighbors, strangers, and even those who have hurt us. Read them slowly when your patience feels thin. They remind you that gentleness carries its own reward, and that God meets the good you offer with good you cannot yet see.
2:83 — And when we took a covenant from the Children of Israel: worship none but God; be good to parents, to relatives, to orphans, and to the needy; speak kindly to people; establish the prayer and give the alms. Then you turned away, except for a few of you, and you were refusing.
3:159 — It was by a mercy from God that you were gentle with them. Had you been harsh and hard of heart, they would have scattered from around you. So pardon them, ask forgiveness for them, and consult them in the matter. Then, once you have resolved, place your trust in God — indeed, God loves those who place their trust in him.
4:36 — Worship God and associate nothing with him. Be good to parents, to relatives, to orphans, to the needy, to the neighbor who is kin and the neighbor who is a stranger, to the companion at your side, to the traveler, and to those whom your right hands rightfully hold. God does not love the arrogant and boastful.
16:90 — Indeed, God commands justice, excellence, and giving to kin, and forbids indecency, wrongdoing, and transgression. He counsels you, so that you may take heed.
17:23 — Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but him, and that you treat your parents well. If one or both of them reach old age in your care, do not say to them a word of contempt, do not rebuff them — speak to them with honor.
28:77 — Seek the home of the hereafter through what God has given you, and do not forget your share of this world. Do good, as God has done good to you, and do not seek corruption in the land. Indeed, God does not love those who spread corruption.
41:34 — Good and evil are not equal. Repel evil with what is better, and the one between you and whom there was enmity will become like a devoted friend.
55:60 — Is the reward for goodness anything but goodness?
