Envy usually arrives quietly. You see someone's marriage, their ease, their answered prayer, and a small voice asks why the portion went to them. The Qur'an takes that voice seriously and answers it with tenderness, reminding you that provision is measured by One who knows what each heart can carry.
These verses do not shame the feeling. They redirect the gaze. God invites you to ask Him for His bounty rather than resent it in another's hands, and He steadies you against grieving what slipped past you. Read slowly, and let your restlessness settle into trust.
113:5 — and from the evil of an envier when he envies.
4:32 — Do not long for that by which God has favored some of you over others. To men a share of what they have earned, and to women a share of what they have earned. Ask God of his bounty. God has full knowledge of all things.
20:131 — And do not strain your eyes toward what we have given certain groups among them to enjoy — the bloom of this worldly life — by which we test them. The provision of your Lord is better and more lasting.
15:88 — Do not stretch your eyes toward what we have given certain groups among them to enjoy, and do not grieve over them. Lower your wing to the believers.
2:109 — Many of the People of the Book would love to turn you back into rejecters after you have believed, out of envy rooted in their own selves — even after the truth has become clear to them. So pardon and overlook until God brings his command. Indeed, God has power over all things.
4:54 — Or do they envy people for what God has given them of his bounty? Indeed, we gave the family of Ibrahim the scripture and wisdom, and we granted them a vast dominion.
57:23 — so that you do not grieve over what has slipped away from you, nor exult over what he has given you. God does not love anyone arrogant and boastful —
3:14 — Made alluring to people is the love of desires — women, children, heaped-up treasures of gold and silver, branded horses, livestock, and tilled land. These are the comforts of this worldly life, but with God is the finest return.
