Death arrives for everyone, and the Qur'an speaks of it plainly. It names the moment every soul will meet, and it places that moment inside the care of the One who gave us breath to begin with. To read these verses is to sit with a fact most of us spend our days avoiding.
Yet the Qur'an frames our ending as a return rather than an erasure. We came from God, and to Him we go back. These passages can steady you when you stand at a graveside, when a diagnosis arrives, or when the thought of your own mortality keeps you awake.
3:185 — Every soul will taste death. You will be paid your full reward only on the day of resurrection. Whoever is drawn away from the fire and admitted to the garden has truly triumphed. The life of this world is nothing but the enjoyment of illusion.
2:156 — those who, when calamity strikes them, say, "we belong to God, and to him we shall return."
67:2 — the one who created death and life to test which of you is best in deed — and he is the Mighty, the Forgiving —
29:57 — Every soul will taste death, then to us you will be returned.
39:42 — God takes the souls at the time of their death, and those that have not yet died, in their sleep. He keeps those for whom death has been decreed and sends the others back until an appointed term. In that are signs for a people who reflect.
50:19 — And the stupor of death comes bearing the truth: this is what you were trying to evade.
21:35 — Every soul will taste death. And we test you with evil and with good as a trial, and to us you will be returned.
62:8 — Say: the death you flee from will surely meet you. Then you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the seen, and he will tell you what you used to do.
