مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَىٰ
Ma wad da'aka rabbuka wa ma qalaa
your Lord has not forsaken you, nor is he displeased.
Waddaʿa is the verb of taking formal leave, the intensive of an ordinary goodbye, so what the line rules out is a deliberate farewell rather than a mere absence. Qalā, the second verb, is left without an object where Arabic would normally supply one, and commentators took the omission as a courtesy that keeps the word for aversion away from the person addressed. The two oaths before it set daylight beside a night that only looks empty.
