Surah Al-Layl — الليل

Chapter 92 of the Qur'an · “The Night” · 21 verses · revealed in Makkah

1. 92:1 وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ By the night as it covers,
2. 92:2 وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ and by the day as it shines forth,
3. 92:3 وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ and by the one who created male and female,
4. 92:4 إِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتَّىٰ indeed, your strivings run in different directions.
5. 92:5 فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَىٰ وَٱتَّقَىٰ As for the one who gives and is mindful of God,
6. 92:6 وَصَدَّقَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ and affirms the truth of the finest reward,
7. 92:7 فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ we will ease his path toward ease.
8. 92:8 وَأَمَّا مَنۢ بَخِلَ وَٱسْتَغْنَىٰ But as for the one who is stingy and thinks himself self-sufficient,
9. 92:9 وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ and denies what is most beautiful,
10. 92:10 فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْعُسْرَىٰ we will ease his way toward hardship.
11. 92:11 وَمَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥٓ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰٓ and his wealth will not avail him when he plunges down.
12. 92:12 إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدَىٰ Indeed, upon us rests the guidance.
13. 92:13 وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلْـَٔاخِرَةَ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ And indeed, to us belong the last life and the first.
14. 92:14 فَأَنذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًا تَلَظَّىٰ So I have warned you of a blazing fire,
15. 92:15 لَا يَصْلَىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلْأَشْقَى none will burn in it but the most wretched,
16. 92:16 ٱلَّذِى كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ the one who denied and turned away.
17. 92:17 وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَتْقَى But the most God-conscious will be kept far from it —
18. 92:18 ٱلَّذِى يُؤْتِى مَالَهُۥ يَتَزَكَّىٰ the one who gives his wealth to purify himself,
19. 92:19 وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُۥ مِن نِّعْمَةٍ تُجْزَىٰٓ not as repayment for any favor owed to anyone,
20. 92:20 إِلَّا ٱبْتِغَآءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ seeking only the face of his Lord, the Most High,
21. 92:21 وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضَىٰ And surely he will be well pleased.
