Surah Al-Munafiqun — 63:10

Wa anifqoo mim maa razaqnaakum min qabli any-yaatiya ahadakumul mawtu fa yaqoola rabbi law laaa akhkhartaneee ilaaa ajalin qareebin fa assaddaqa wa akum minassaaliheen

And spend from what we have provided you, before death comes to one of you and he says, "My Lord, if only you would delay me for a little while longer, so I might give in charity and be among the righteous."

Reflection

The surah has spent its opening on men who used withholding as a weapon, urging others to cut off support until the Prophet's companions dispersed, and the instruction to believers here reverses that exactly. What the dying man asks for is short, a small extension of his term, and what he wants it for is to give. The verse immediately after closes the request before it can be entertained.
