وَلَوْ تَرَىٰٓ إِذْ وُقِفُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ فَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰلَيْتَنَا نُرَدُّ وَلَا نُكَذِّبَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّنَا وَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Wa law taraaa iz wauqifoo 'alan Naari faqaaloo yaa laitanaa nuraddu wa laa nukaz ziba bi Aayaati Rabbinaa wa nakoona minal mu'mineen
If only you could see them when they are made to stand before the fire, saying, "If only we could be sent back — we would not deny the signs of our Lord, and we would be among the believers."
Law tarā opens a conditional whose answer clause never arrives: if you could see them, then, and the sentence stops, leaving the sight unsaid. Wuqifū is passive, so they are held in place rather than standing of their own accord. The wish they make is taken apart immediately, on the grounds that what they kept hidden has surfaced and a second chance would find them where the first did.
