By the Book that makes all clear,
Indeed, we sent it down on a blessed night — indeed, we have always been the ones who warn.
44:4فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍon that night every matter of wisdom is made distinct,
44:5أَمْرًا مِّنْ عِندِنَآ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَa command from our presence — indeed, we have ever been sending messengers —
44:6رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُa mercy from your Lord — indeed, he is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing,
Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them — if you are people of certainty.
There is no god but he — he gives life and brings death — your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers.
Yet they linger in doubt, treating it all as a game.
So watch for the day when the sky brings forth a visible smoke,
44:11يَغْشَى ٱلنَّاسَ ۖ هَـٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌenveloping the people — this is a painful torment.
Our Lord, lift this torment from us — we believe."
How can the reminder reach them now, when a clear messenger had already come to them,
Then they turned away from him and said, "He is tutored, possessed."
Indeed, we will lift the torment for a little while — but you will surely return.
On the day we seize with the great seizing — indeed, we will exact retribution.
And before them we tested the people of Pharaoh, when a noble messenger came to them,
44:18أَنْ أَدُّوٓا۟ إِلَىَّ عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌsaying, "Hand over to me the servants of God. I am a trustworthy messenger sent to you.
And do not exalt yourselves over God. I come to you with clear authority.
And I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me.
And if you do not believe me, then keep away from me.
So he called upon his Lord: "These are a guilty people."
Then set out by night with my servants — you will be pursued.
And leave the sea parted and still — they are an army to be drowned.
How many gardens and springs they left behind,
44:26وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍand cornfields and noble dwellings,
44:27وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا۟ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهِينَand comforts in which they delighted —
So it was. And we passed it on as inheritance to another people.
Neither the heavens nor the earth wept for them, nor were they granted any reprieve.
And we delivered the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment —
44:31مِن فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَfrom Pharaoh — he was arrogant, one of those who transgress all bounds.
And we chose them, with knowledge, above all the worlds.
And we gave them signs in which there was a clear trial.
Indeed, these people are saying,
There is nothing beyond our first death, and we will not be raised again.
Then bring back our forefathers, if you are telling the truth.
Are they better, or the people of Tubba' and those before them? We destroyed them — they were guilty.
We did not create the heavens and the earth and what lies between them in play.
We created them only in truth, but most of them do not know.
Indeed, the day of decision is the appointed time for them all —
44:41يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى مَوْلًى عَن مَّوْلًى شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَthe day when no ally will avail another ally in anything, nor will they be helped —
44:42إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُexcept those upon whom God has mercy. Indeed, he is the Mighty, the Merciful.
Indeed, the tree of Zaqqum
Like molten metal, it boils in their bellies,
44:46كَغَلْىِ ٱلْحَمِيمِlike the seething of scalding water.
Seize him and drag him into the midst of jahim,
Then pour over his head the torment of scalding water.
Taste it — you, the mighty, the noble one.
This is what you used to dispute.
Indeed, those mindful of God will be in a secure place,
44:52فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍamid gardens and springs,
44:53يَلْبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَclothed in fine silk and rich brocade, facing one another.
So it will be. And we will wed them to companions with lovely, wide eyes.
There they call for every kind of fruit, secure.
There they will taste no death beyond the first, and he has shielded them from the torment of jahim,
44:57فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُa bounty from your Lord — that is the supreme triumph.
Indeed, we have made it easy on your tongue, so that they may take heed.
So wait — they too are waiting.
