Surah Sad — 38:66

رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْغَفَّـٰرُ

Rabbus samaawaati wal ardi wa maa bainahumal 'Azeezul Ghaffaar

Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, the Mighty, the All-Forgiving.

Reflection

Two intensive name-pairs close two consecutive verses, and the second bends the first. Verse 65 ends on al-Wāhid al-Qahhār, the One who subdues; this one ends on al-ʿAzīz al-Ghaffār, where the same unanswerable power is what covers a fault over. Both endings fall inside a command to say it aloud, so the pairing works as an argument aimed at whoever is listening.
