وَلَن يَتَمَنَّوْهُ أَبَدًا بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِالظَّالِمِينَ
Wa lan yatamannawhu abadan bimaa qaddamat aydeehim; wallaahu 'aleemum biz zaalimeen
But they will never long for it, ever, because of what their own hands have sent ahead. And God knows the wrongdoers well.
Qaddamat aydīhim, what their hands sent ahead, is the Qur'an's standing image for deeds arriving at a destination before the person does. The refusal is stated as permanent and the reason given is internal, which means the argument is settled by the reluctance itself rather than by any further evidence. The verse closes on knowledge, which is where this whole exchange has been heading.
