Surah Al-Baqarah — 2:38

Qulnah bitoo minhaa jamee 'an fa immaa yaatiyannakum minnee hudan faman tabi'a hudaaya falaa khawfun 'alaihim wa laa hum yahza noon

Then we said, "Go down from it, all of you. Guidance will surely come to you from me, and whoever follows my guidance will have no fear, nor will they grieve."

Reflection

The order to descend is given twice, once before Adam is forgiven and once after, and only this second issuing carries terms for what comes next. Those terms are two: guidance will arrive, and everything turns on whether it is followed. The closing promise about fear and grief makes its first appearance here and returns eleven more times later, said of very different people each time.
