Surah Al-Baqarah — 2:281

Wattaqoo yawman turja'oona feehi ilal laahi summa tuwaffaa kullu nafsim maa kasabat wa hum laa yuzlamoon

And be mindful of a day when you will be returned to God. Then every soul will be paid in full for what it has earned, and they will not be wronged.

Reflection

Settlement language carries over from the debt passage this verse closes: tuwaffā belongs to the vocabulary of paying a sum in full and of giving honest weight, and here it governs what each soul has earned. Traditional accounts place this among the last verses revealed, which would account for why it sits inside a discussion of loans rather than where the surah finishes.
