Surah Al-Baqarah — 2:158

Innas Safaa wal-Marwata min sha'aaa'iril laahi faman hajjal Baita awi'tamara falaa junaaha 'alaihi ai yattawwafa bihimaa; wa man tatawwa'a khairan fa innal laaha Shaakirun'Aleem

Safa and Marwa are among the symbols of God. So whoever makes the pilgrimage to the House, or the lesser pilgrimage, commits no wrong in walking between them. And whoever volunteers good — God is appreciative, all-knowing.

What does ‘innas safa wal marwata’ mean?

Qur’an 2:158 names Ṣafā and Marwah among God’s signs and says those making Hajj or ʿUmrah walk between them. It closes by saying that God appreciates and knows those who do good willingly. The walk between the two hills is called saʿī.

Sahih Muslim 1218a recounts the Prophet reciting this verse at Ṣafā, then remembering God and making supplication there and at Marwah as he performed saʿī.
