أَلَمْ يَجِدْكَ يَتِيمًا فَـَٔاوَىٰ
Alam ya jidka yateeman fa aawaa
Czyż nie znalazł cię sierotą i czy nie dał ci schronienia?
Did he not find you an orphan and give you shelter?
The consolation in the opening lines is argued from the hearer's own biography, and this is the first of three pieces of evidence offered. Āwā is the verb behind ma'wā, a place one returns to, so what was given is somewhere to settle. Three verses on, the same word for orphan comes back as a command, turning each remembered gift into something owed onward.
