قُلْ إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ رَبِّىَ ٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ وَٱلْإِثْمَ وَٱلْبَغْىَ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ وَأَن تُشْرِكُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ مَا لَمْ يُنَزِّلْ بِهِۦ سُلْطَـٰنًا وَأَن تَقُولُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
Qul innamaa harrama Rabbiyal fawaahisha maa zahara minhaa wa maa bataa wal isma walbaghya bighairil haqqi wa an tushrikoo billaahi maa lam yunazzil bihee sultaananw wa an taqooloo 'alal laahi maa laa ta'lamoon
Powiedz: "Mój Pan zakazuje tylko czynów szpetnych, jawnych i skrytych - grzech i gwałt są bezprawiem - i tego, żebyście dodawali Bogu za współtowarzyszy to, czemu nie została przekazana żadna władza; i tego, żebyście mówili przeciw Bogu, czego nie wiecie."
Say: my Lord has forbidden only shameful deeds, whether open or hidden, and sin, and unjust aggression, and that you associate with God that for which he has sent down no authority, and that you say about God what you do not know.
Innamā restricts the list before it begins, so what follows the question about forbidden adornment is a short closed inventory. Its final item, speaking for God without knowledge, names the very offence committed by whoever drew up the prohibitions this passage has been answering. Putting it last turns the reply back onto the people who asked.
