وَٱلَّذِينَ تَبَوَّءُو ٱلدَّارَ وَٱلْإِيمَـٰنَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ يُحِبُّونَ مَنْ هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ فِى صُدُورِهِمْ حَاجَةً مِّمَّآ أُوتُوا۟ وَيُؤْثِرُونَ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَلَوْ كَانَ بِهِمْ خَصَاصَةٌ ۚ وَمَن يُوقَ شُحَّ نَفْسِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
Wallazeena tabawwa'ud daara wal eemaana min qablihim yuhibboona man haajara ilaihim wa laa yajidoona fee sudoorihim haajatam mimmaa ootoo wa yu'siroona 'alaa anfusihim wa law kaana bihim khasaasah; wa many yooqa shuhha nafsihee fa ulaaa'ika humul muflihoon
A ci, którzy się umocnili w swoim domu i w swojej wierze przed nimi, miłują tych, którzy do nich wywędrowali, i nie znajdują w swoich sercach żadnego pożądania dla tego; co tamtym zostało dane. Oni dają im pierwszeństwo, nawet gdyby bieda była ich udziałem. A ten, kto się uchroni przed skąpstwem własnej duszy, będzie szczęśliwy.
And those who had settled in the home and in faith before them love those who migrated to them, and find in their hearts no envy for what the others were given, and prefer them over themselves, even when they themselves are in need. Whoever is shielded from the greed of his own self — those are the ones who succeed.
The praise here is for people who received nothing from the distribution just described and felt no grudge about it. Arabic marks a difference between bukhl, withholding on a given occasion, and shuḥḥ, the grasping disposition underneath it; the rescue named is from the second. One verb does double duty at the start, since they settled into a city and into faith at once, which English has to split apart.
