Four questions run through this stretch of the surah, each opening with the same words and each picking something people really do: this one, then sowing, then drinking, then striking fire. Every one of them grants the human act and asks who performs the part underneath it. Beginning with conception sets the challenge at the point where a person's own arrival was settled by someone else.
