وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ فِيكُمْ رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ لَوْ يُطِيعُكُمْ فِى كَثِيرٍ مِّنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ لَعَنِتُّمْ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ حَبَّبَ إِلَيْكُمُ ٱلْإِيمَـٰنَ وَزَيَّنَهُۥ فِى قُلُوبِكُمْ وَكَرَّهَ إِلَيْكُمُ ٱلْكُفْرَ وَٱلْفُسُوقَ وَٱلْعِصْيَانَ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلرَّٰشِدُونَ
Wa'lamooo anna feekum Rasoolal laah; law yutee'ukum fee kaseerim minal amrila'anittum wa laakinnal laaha habbaba ilaikumul eemaana wa zaiyanahoo fee quloobikum wa karraha ilaikumul kufra walfusooqa wal'isyaan; ulaaaika humur raashidoon
I wiedzcie, że Posłaniec Boga jest pośród was. Jeśliby on posłuchał was w wielu sprawach, to z pewnością ponieślibyście szkodę. Lecz Bóg dał wam pokochać wiarę i On ozdobił ją w waszych sercach, a uczynił dla was nienawistną niewiarę, zepsucie i nieposłuszeństwo. Tacy - oni idą drogą prawości.
And know that the Messenger of God is among you. If he were to follow your wishes in much of the matter, you would fall into hardship. But God has made faith dear to you and adorned it in your hearts, and has made denial, wickedness, and disobedience hateful to you. Such are the rightly guided —
What a person loves is described here as a gift: faith made dear and set like an ornament inside the heart, with the following verse calling this a bounty from God. The passage inverts the usual expectation of leadership, since a community whose wishes were followed on most questions would be brought to hardship by that. ʿAnat names the kind of distress a person falls into.
