We are your allies in the life of this world and in the hereafter. There you will have whatever your souls desire, and there you will have whatever you call for.
Alliance is claimed for the present life alongside the hereafter, and that first half is what commentators have argued over: whether the angels' descent comes at the moment of death, at the rising, or steadily through a person's ordinary days. The condition set for it a line earlier is istiqama, staying straight on a course after the sentence has been said.
