Surah An-Nisa — 4:134

man kaana yureedu sawaabad dunyaa fa'indallaahi sawaabud dunyaa wal Aakhirah; wa kaanal laahu Samee'am Baseeraa

Whoever desires the reward of this world — with God is the reward of this world and the next. And God is ever hearing, ever seeing.

Reflection

The verse leaves the wanting in place and corrects only its scale: the one being asked can give both worlds, so asking for a single one of them settles for too little. Closing on hearing and seeing sets up what comes straight after, a command to stand as witnesses even against yourself, where twisted testimony is the danger. The names are chosen for that seam.
