Surah Sad — 38:17

Isbir 'alaa maa yaqooloona wazkur 'abdanaa Daawooda zal aidi aidi innahooo awwaab

Bądź cierpliwy na to, co oni mówią, i wspomnij Naszego sługę Dawida, posiadającego siłę. Zaprawdę, on był pełen skruchy!

Be patient with what they say, and remember our servant Dawud, possessor of strength — he was ever turning back to God.

Reflection

The instruction to endure is answered with a name, and Sad then spends most of its length on that name and the ones after it. Awwāb, the one who keeps returning, is the tag this surah hangs on each figure it raises — Dawud here, Sulayman, Ayyub, and even the birds gathered around Dawud two verses on. Dhā al-ayd puts strength and turning back in the same person.
