Surah Al-Mu'minun — 23:35

Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones, you will be brought forth again?

Reflection

The speakers are the notables of a people the surah leaves unnamed, and commentators have read them as the people of Hud or of Salih; the pattern recurs because the objection does. Their argument is addressed to the crowd rather than to the messenger, which makes it a piece of public management: turn resurrection into an absurdity everyone can laugh at, and the man asking for obedience loses his standing without ever being answered.
