وَلَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًا مِّنْهُمْ زَهْرَةَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا لِنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ ۚ وَرِزْقُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ
Wa laa tamuddanna 'ainaika ilaa ma matta'na biheee azwajam minhum zahratal hayaatid dunya linaftinahum feeh; wa rizqu Rabbika khairunw wa abqaa
I nie wytężaj swoich oczu na to, co daliśmy w używanie niektórym spośród nich - kwiat życia na tym świecie by doświadczyć ich. Zaopatrzenie twego Pana jest lepsze i dłużej trwające.
And do not strain your eyes toward what we have given certain groups among them to enjoy — the bloom of this worldly life — by which we test them. The provision of your Lord is better and more lasting.
Azwāj here means sorts or classes, so the comparison warned against is with particular groups and what each has been handed, rather than with prosperity at large. Zahra names the brief showy stage of a plant, bright and close to dropping, which is the whole valuation the verse offers. Prayer stands on both sides of the line — the day's edges just before, the household just after.
