Am taqooloona inna Ibraaheema wa Ismaa'eela wa Ishaaq wa Ya'qooba wal asbaata kaanoo Hoodan aw Nasaaraa; qul 'a-antum a'lamu amil laah; wa man azlamu mimman katama shahaadatan 'indahoo minallaah; wa mallaahu bighaafilin 'ammaa ta'maloon
Or do you claim that Ibrahim, Isma'il, Ishaq, Ya'qub, and the tribes were Jews or Christians? Say: do you know better, or does God? And who is more unjust than someone who conceals a testimony he has from God? And God is not unaware of what you do.
The argument turns on chronology: the figures named lived before either community existed under those names, so the labels are being applied backwards. The charge that follows, concealing a testimony one holds from God, is aimed at people who knew the earlier scriptures well. The verse after it repeats an earlier line of this surah word for word, closing the section by refusing anyone the merit of an ancestor.
