فَٱنطَلَقَا حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا لَقِيَا غُلَـٰمًا فَقَتَلَهُۥ قَالَ أَقَتَلْتَ نَفْسًا زَكِيَّةًۢ بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ لَّقَدْ جِئْتَ شَيْـًٔا نُّكْرًا
Fantalaqaa hattaa izaa laqiyaa ghulaaman faqatalahoo qaala aqatalta nafsan zakiy yatam bighairi nafs; laqad ji'ta shai'an nukraa
I znowu wyruszyli w drogę. Aż kiedy spotkali pewnego chłopca, on go zabił. Powiedział Mojżesz: "Czy zabiłeś człowieka, który nie był winien żadnego zabójstwa? Popełniłeś rzecz niegodziwą!"
So they journeyed on, until they met a young boy, and he killed him. Musa said, "Have you killed an innocent soul who had taken no life? You have done a terrible thing."
Musa's protest changes its word between the two objections. At the ship the act was imr, grave and burdensome; here it is nukr, the direct opposite of maʿrūf, what is known and acknowledged. The charge is that the act has no place in anything he recognises, and the passage lets it stand there for six verses before any reason is given.
