ثُمَّ لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
Thumma latus alunna yauma-izin 'anin na'eem
Potem, z pewnością, zostaniecie zapytani tego Dnia o szczęśliwość!
Then, on that day, you will be questioned about the comforts you enjoyed.
Naʿīm covers the good things of life broadly, from the root that gives niʿma, a favour received. Commentators read its scope differently: some took it to include water, shade and health, the things a person never counts, while others limited it to what goes past need. The surah opened with the drive for more and closes by making that same accumulation the subject of a question, with the verb carrying the emphatic form Arabic uses for an oath.
