۞ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ عَـٰهَدَ ٱللَّهَ لَئِنْ ءَاتَىٰنَا مِن فَضْلِهِۦ لَنَصَّدَّقَنَّ وَلَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
Wa minhum man 'aaha dal laaha la'in aataanaa min fadlihee lanas saddaqanna wa lanakoonanna minassaaliheen
Dan diantara mereka ada orang yang telah berikrar kepada Allah, "Sesungguhnya jika Allah memberikan sebagian karunia-Nya kepada kami, pastilah kami akan bersedekah dan pastilah kami termasuk orang-orang yang saleh".
And among them are those who made a covenant with God: "If he gives us of his bounty, we will surely give in charity and be among the righteous."
Arabic marks this promise with its strongest oath form, the doubled emphatic nūn on both verbs, so the men are heard swearing as hard as the language allows. The sentence puts God's giving first and their own giving second, and the second is made to wait on the first. They pledge two different kinds of thing, an act of charity and a standing among the righteous, and only one of those is theirs to grant.
