Surah Al-A'raf — 7:40

Innal lazeena kazzaboo bi Aayaatinaa wastakbaroo 'anhaa laa tufattahu lahum ahwaabus samaaa'i wa laa yadkhuloonal jannata hattaa yalijal jamalu fee sammil khiyaat; wa kazaalika najzil mujrimeen

Indeed, those who denied our signs and scorned them — the gates of heaven will not be opened to them, nor will they enter the garden until a camel passes through the eye of a needle. That is how we repay the evildoers.

Reflection

The line names two closures, one above and one ahead. Early exegetes gave two answers to the question of what it is that finds the gates of heaven shut: their deeds, which elsewhere are described as rising, or their souls at death, and the wording carries either. Entry to the garden is then made to wait on a condition that cannot be met, which is this passage's way of saying never without using the word.
