قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْمَوْتَ ٱلَّذِى تَفِرُّونَ مِنْهُ فَإِنَّهُۥ مُلَـٰقِيكُمْ ۖ ثُمَّ تُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَـٰلِمِ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
Qul innal mawtal lazee tafirroona minhu fa innahoo mulaaqeekum summa turaddoona ilaa 'Aalimil Ghaibi wash shahaadati fa yunabbi'ukum bimaa kuntum ta'maloon
so say, ‘The death you run away from will come to meet you and you will be returned to the One who knows the unseen as well as the seen: He will tell you everything you have done.’
Say: the death you flee from will surely meet you. Then you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the seen, and he will tell you what you used to do.
This closes an argument begun two verses earlier, where a claim of exclusive nearness to God was tested by an invitation to long for death. The Arabic mulaqikum makes death the one doing the meeting: it comes toward you while you move away from it. Then the surah turns straight to Friday prayer and the marketplace, setting that reminder directly beside ordinary business.
