۞ عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن يَجْعَلَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ ٱلَّذِينَ عَادَيْتُم مِّنْهُم مَّوَدَّةً ۚ وَٱللَّهُ قَدِيرٌ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
Asal laahu any yaj'ala bainakum wa bainal lazeena 'aadaitum minhum mawaddah; wallahu qadeer; wallahu ghafoorur raheem
God may still bring about affection between you and your present enemies- God is all powerful, God is most forgiving and merciful-
It may be that God will bring about affection between you and those of them you now hold as enemies. God is All-Powerful, and God is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Placed directly after the surah holds up Ibrahim's break with his own people as the example to follow, this verse keeps the door from closing. Commentators noticed the particle ʿasā, ordinarily perhaps, and read it as a promise whenever God is the one who says it. The verses immediately after locate the line in conduct: those who never fought you are owed kindness and fair dealing.
