Surah Az-Zukhruf — 43:34

وَلِبُيُوتِهِمْ أَبْوَٰبًا وَسُرُرًا عَلَيْهَا يَتَّكِـُٔونَ

Wa libu yootihim abwaabanw wa sururan 'alaihaa yattaki'oon

massive gates, couches to sit on,

and doors for their houses, and couches on which to recline,

Reflection

Surur, the couches named here, furnishes the garden too at 15:47 and 52:20, so a reward and a withheld luxury are drawn with one vocabulary. The inventory stays deliberately domestic, roofs and stairs and doors and seating, the contents of a rich man's house rather than anything marvellous, and that modesty of scale is itself the comment on what wealth proves.
