Reflection

Ya Sin opens the surah, gives it its name, and stands among the disconnected letter-groups that begin twenty-nine surahs. Readers have gone different ways with it: many early authorities held its meaning known to God alone, and others heard in it a form of address, which fits the second person the following verses turn to. Whether it counts as a verse by itself varies with the numbering system.
