وَلَا تُصَعِّرْ خَدَّكَ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَمْشِ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَرَحًا ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ مُخْتَالٍ فَخُورٍ
Wa laa tusa'-'ir khaddaka linnaasi wa laa tamshi fil ardi maarahan innal laaha laa yuhibbu kulla mukhtaalin fakhoor
Do not turn your nose up at people, nor walk about the place arrogantly, for God does not love arrogant or boastful people.
Do not turn your cheek away from people in scorn, and do not walk the earth with arrogance. God does not love anyone who is conceited and boastful.
Both prohibitions here land on the body: a cheek turned aside and a way of walking. Ṣaʿar is a complaint that twists a camel's neck so its head stays fixed to one side, and Arabic lends the animal's deformity to a person holding their face away from someone speaking to them. Marah is walking with the pleasure of being watched.
