Surah Ali 'Imran — 3:134

Allazeena yunfiqoona fissarraaa'i waddarraaa'i wal kaazimeenal ghaiza wal aafeena 'anin-naas; wallaahu yuhibbul muhsineen

those who give in times of ease and in times of hardship, who restrain their anger and pardon people — and God loves those who do good.

Reflection

The word kāẓimīn comes from sealing a waterskin filled to the brim, so it describes holding anger in while it is still hot. What follows raises the demand twice over: pardoning the person, and then iḥsān, actively doing them good. Sitting inside a description of who the garden is prepared for, the verse makes ordinary self-control and the giving that continues in hard times part of the qualification.
