أَمْ كُنتُمْ شُهَدَآءَ إِذْ حَضَرَ يَعْقُوبَ ٱلْمَوْتُ إِذْ قَالَ لِبَنِيهِ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِنۢ بَعْدِى قَالُوا۟ نَعْبُدُ إِلَـٰهَكَ وَإِلَـٰهَ ءَابَآئِكَ إِبْرَٰهِـۧمَ وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلَ وَإِسْحَـٰقَ إِلَـٰهًا وَٰحِدًا وَنَحْنُ لَهُۥ مُسْلِمُونَ
Am kuntum shuhadaaa'a iz hadara Ya'qoobal mawtu iz qaala libaneehi maa ta'budoona mim ba'dee qaaloo na'budu ilaahaka wa ilaaha aabaaa'ika Ibraaheema wa Ismaa'eela wa Ishaaqa Ilaahanw waahidanw wa nahnu lahoo muslimoon
Adakah kamu hadir ketika Ya`qūb kedatangan (tanda-tanda) maut, ketika ia berkata kepada anak-anaknya, "Apa yang kamu sembah sepeninggalku?" Mereka menjawab, "Kami akan menyembah Tuhan-mu dan Tuhan nenek moyangmu, Ibrāhīm, Ismā`īl dan Ishāq, (yaitu) Tuhan Yang Maha Esa dan kami hanya tunduk patuh kepada-Nya".
Or were you witnesses when death came to Yaqub, when he said to his sons, "What will you worship after me?" They said, "We will worship your God and the God of your fathers — Ibrahim, Ismail, and Ishaq — one God, and to him we surrender."
An argument about who inherits Ibrahim is answered by asking whether the claimants were in the room. The sons then list Ismail among their father's fathers, although Yaqub descends through Ishaq and Ismail is his uncle, which is the passage classical usage cites for aba' covering a wider line than fathers strictly. What the sons profess at the end is a verb, and the community names arrive two verses later from the other side of the argument.
