Surah Al-Hijr — 15:39

Iblis then said to God, ‘Because You have put me in the wrong, I will lure mankind on earth and put them in the wrong,

He said, "My Lord, because you have led me astray, I will make things on earth seem alluring to them, and I will lead them all astray,

Reflection

One verb carries both halves of the sentence: Iblis names his own straying with aghwaytanī and then promises to do the same to humanity with la-ughwiyannahum. The charge is laid upward first, and the programme follows from it as though it were a consequence. He also names his field, the earth, and describes his method as making things there look attractive, claiming no power to force anyone.
