فَخَلَفَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ خَلْفٌ وَرِثُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ يَأْخُذُونَ عَرَضَ هَـٰذَا ٱلْأَدْنَىٰ وَيَقُولُونَ سَيُغْفَرُ لَنَا وَإِن يَأْتِهِمْ عَرَضٌ مِّثْلُهُۥ يَأْخُذُوهُ ۚ أَلَمْ يُؤْخَذْ عَلَيْهِم مِّيثَـٰقُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ أَن لَّا يَقُولُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلْحَقَّ وَدَرَسُوا۟ مَا فِيهِ ۗ وَٱلدَّارُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لِّلَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَ ۗ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ
Fakhalafa mim ba'dihim khalfunw warisul Kitaaba yaa khuzoona 'arada haazal adnaa wa yaqooloona sayughfaru lanaa wa iny yaatihim 'aradum misluhoo yaakhuzooh; alam yu'khaz 'alaihim 'aradum misluhoo yaakhuzooh; alam yu'khaz 'alaihim meesaaqul Kitaabi al laa yaqooloo 'alal laahi illal haqqa wa darasoo maa feeh; wad Daarul Aakhirtu khairul lillazeena yattaqoon; afalaa ta'qiloon
After them came successors who inherited the scripture, taking the fleeting gains of this lower world and saying, "We will be forgiven." And if similar gains come their way, they take them again. Was the covenant of the scripture not taken from them — that they would say nothing about God except the truth? And they have studied what is in it. The home of the hereafter is better for those who are mindful. Will you not use your reason?
